In the 19th century, our hula was banned in our own land. Fast forward to this year and we are celebrating 60 years of honoring Hawaiian traditions, language art, and HULA through the Merrie Monarch Festival. Pride in our people, our culture, our tenacity? Understated. What a gift to have such a beautiful culture and to be able to share it with the world.
